Autumn Bliss is a popular autumn flowering variety that produces flavorful fruits from August until the first frost. It has shorter, stout canes that grow in a more narrow fashion than average, which means they won't need a trellis or support. Flowers bloom on canes that grow that same year. Raspberries are best planted in well-drained, moist, organically rich soils. They benefit from mulch and a spring application of fertilizer. Cut to ground level in winter or late fall (after harvesting). Autumn Bliss is resistant to disease and aphids.
Raspberry plants are self-fertile, but they benefit greatly from the pollinating efforts of honey and solitary bees. Bees are responsible for 90 to 95 percent of pollination, and each flower requires a dizzying number of bee visitations in order to form a perfect fruit. The amount of pollination the flowers receive directly affects the size and number of fruits on a bush.
