This common orchid native to eastern North America is distinctive for its downy leaves with white and green markings.

 

Plant Characteristics:

Grows up to 14" tall.

 

Requires shadier conditions.

 

Prefers well drained, slightly acidic, sandy soils. Also grows in loamy or clay, well-drained soils as long as moisture level is moist to somewhat dry. Wet conditions will kill the plant.

 

Blooms mid-July to early September.
