This native woodland grass, found throughout much of the eastern U.S., is ideal for naturalizing or erosion control along stream banks and woodland slopes. Growing up to 2 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, it has shiny, arching blades concentrated near the base. This grass thrives in part to full shade, preferring rich, medium-moist soils, but it can also tolerate seasonal flooding. It supports wildlife by providing seeds for birds and serving as a host plant for the dwarf buff moth caterpillars, making it valuable for native gardens and ecosystems.
