Blooms August to September attract a wide variety of insects, including honeybees, bumblebees, various wasps, bee flies, butterflies, skippers and moths. Asters are a host plant for 112 species of caterpillars. Wild turkeys eat the seeds and foliage. Deer and rabbits browse the foliage helping to maintain a bushy growth habit.
